You're Probably Overcomplicating This

As entrepreneurs, we're incredibly good at finding solutions.

The problem? Sometimes we create more solutions than we actually need.

A new project management platform. A more detailed workflow. Another productivity app. A spreadsheet to track the spreadsheet that's tracking the project.

Before long, the thing that was supposed to make life easier has become another thing to manage.

This isn't a criticism. It's a very normal side effect of being ambitious

 When you care deeply about your work, it's easy to assume that more complexity equals better results.

But often, the opposite is true.

The Best Systems Are Usually the Simplest

Think about the things that consistently move your business forward:

• Following up with potential clients

• Delivering excellent work

• Building relationships

• Staying visible to your audience

• Asking for referrals

• Managing your finances

None of those require a complicated system. They require consistency.

A simple process that gets used every day will outperform a sophisticated process that gets abandoned after two weeks.

Before You Add Something New, Ask Yourself:

• Is this solving a real problem or a hypothetical one?

• Will this actually save time, or just move my time elsewhere?

• If I couldn't use this tool tomorrow, what would I do instead?

• Am I improving the process, or avoiding the work?

Sometimes the answer is a new tool. Sometimes it's a new workflow.

But surprisingly often, the answer is simply doing less.

A Challenge for Next Week

Think about this over the weeked - think about just one thing in your business or workday that's become more complicated than it needs to be.

• Your task management system

• Your content planning process

• Your meeting schedule

• Your inbox organization

• The way you onboard clients

• A decision you've been overanalyzing

And on Monday, start the week off asking yourself: 

What's the simplest version of this that would still work?

You may be surprised by how much mental space you get back.
